Khulu overlooks an ancient riverbed, in today’s terms called a ‘vlei’ and the waterhole in this vlei is known to attract a variety of the greatest wildlife and bird life in Hwange National Park.
Little Makalolo lies in the heart of Hwange National Park, in one of its best game viewing areas, overlooking a vibrant waterhole. It offers privacy for guests who enjoy small camps and a sense of remoteness.
An ideal location for game viewing, with sightings of lion, large herds of elephant, buffalo, hyena, giraffe, sable, wildebeest, impala, waterbuck, reeed bauck and many other species.
If you and your family or a group of friends want to indulge in a private break, then this is the perfect getaway. Tom’s Little Hide, our tribute to Tom Preston who built the original camp, is a beautifully authentic safari house set on five square kilometres near The Hide.
Since The Hide Safari Camp was sited in one of Hwange National Park’s prime wildlife areas over twenty years ago, we have distilled the essence of the safari experience and embellished it with our own distinctive style. Hwange was once the royal hunting ground of Ndebele kings and has long been known for its abundant and diverse wildlife. In particular, the park is known for herds of elephant and buffalo numbering in the hundreds. This is one of the best places to see lion, leopard and African wild dog among the hundred or so other mammal and four hundred bird species. We understand that you come to Africa first and foremost to encounter the continents’ natural beauty. At The Hide we are passionate about nature; we have built on our superb location and extensive knowledge of the park with the best expert guides so that you can experience the true wilderness and wildlife Hwange has to offer. Whether on a drive to one of Hwange’s game-rich pans, on foot within our private concession or sleeping out in the Dove’s Nest, there is never a dull moment. In fact, the waterhole just metres from The Hide attracts such a variety of life that you may not need to roam far from your verandah to be a part of the action.
Ivory Lodge is located outside the Hwange National Park on a private concession of 6,000 squared acres. This well appointed lodge is situated in the key home range of the Presidential Elephant herd, made famous by Alan Elliot in the 1980s.
