Chengeta Safari Lodge

US$238 Doubleroom Full Board +activities

In the Shona language of Zimbabwe ‘Chengeta’ means to ‘take care of’ or to ‘ look after’ and we hope this name reflects the soul of this lodge.

This beautiful well established 16 roomed hideaway is found in the midst of a 7,500 acre wildlife paradise with large concentrations of plains game as well as Buffalo, Lion and domesticated Elephant.

The lodge has a two-tiered thatched dining room overlooking the gardens and two swimming pools, a pool bar, trophy lounge and main bar. Evenings can be enjoyed in the bars or around the fire pit, where stories of today’s adventures and tomorrow’s conquests are usually discussed until the late hours. (Should the urge for civilisation call, a TV lounge with full DSTV selection is also available.)

DAY TRIPS ARE ALSO AVAILABLE.

Activities:-

Horse Ridings we cater for both novices wanting an hour or two’s ride as well as experienced riders wanting a half or full day’s ride.

The advantages of riding horseback through the bush are many. You see, smell and feel the surrounding wilderness more intensely as well as get a chance to get (very) close to the animals of the bush. Depending on your schedule, the ride can include a delicious breakfast or lunch in the open.

All horse riders are accompanied by our most trusted guides, who are more than happy to share their in-depth knowledge of the wildlife, the people and the customs of this fascinating land.

Bush walks are another great way to lose yourself in the African wilderness, while at the same time working up a healthy appetite before a delicious breakfast or dinner under the open skies. While bush walks are not for the fearsome — chances are you will get very close to the wild game — our experienced guides will ensure your safety and comfort at all times.

Game drives in open game drive vehicles can be organised both morning and evening and a prearranged picnic lunch can also be arranged. For those staying with us for more than one day, drives can be taken within both reserves. Night drives are also available to view the nocturnal animals and birds of the southern African bush. Night drives normally start after dinner and you are generally out for an hour, returning for cocktails and relaxation around the fire place.

Canoeing is a great way of watching the large mammals (and crocodiles) drink, eat and socialise by the waterfront. Some of the more dramatic interactions between animals take place on the river banks, making it a wildlife photographer’s paradise. Canoeing can be experienced on the Serui River from Pamuzinda lodge.

Elephant rides and interactions from Pamuzinda is a truly magical and moving experience. Sitting on the back, having a tree top view of the plains below, you realise the true size of these African giants. Although fearsome in size, our two adults, Boxer and Shorty, are very sociable creatures. Rescued as calves in the 80’s they have been keeping us company at the Pamuzinda Lodge ever since.

Fishing for bass, barbell or bream is best done on the Serui at Pamuzinda. While we are able to provide basic rods and tackle, the more serious fisherman is encouraged to bring his own equipment. Should luck and skill coincide, our chefs can prepare your catch any way you prefer.

Clay pigeon shooting was and still is a cherished pastime at safari camps. It demands accuracy, speed and a bit of patience and can be exhilarating in the company of an experienced shooter. Whether a beginner or pro, we are happy to provide guns, ammunition and our expertise to make you a shooting star.

Elephant Experience . A personal interaction with our three resident elephants, Boxer, Shorty and Mambo. You can feed them, ride on them and have your photograph taken with them. The elephant handlers are happy to tell you all about their peculiar behaviour and habits, giving you first hand knowledge about these amazing giants.

Lion's  Den EncounterBe at arm’s length of the lions on our special guided tour through the lion enclosure. Accompanied by a wildlife guide, you’ll gain insight into the care of the lions, their habits and daily lives as well as the threats that they face in the wild. A very unique experience that you will remember.
